Hello, My name is Clarissa over at mywifestyles and I am so excited to share with you one of my favorite beauty tips! But first let me introduce myself. I am a wife of 3 years and a stay at home mother, I love the role I play as mom and homemaker. My kids and husband are my heart, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

My husband and I both have had to sacrifice a lot, so I  could stay home and raise our kids. One of my biggest sacrifices I’ve had to make was not spending extra money on beauty products or services. I can’t go out and buy high priced makeup or get my hair done as often, I don’t even get pedicures anymore… But that has not stopped me from finding ways to do these types of things at home. I’m going to share with you one of my best kept secrets to soft and  shiny skin (perfect for all seasons).

You can use coconut oil scrub for a lot of things, I use it for my face wash, to exfoliate, as an moisturizer, I even use it to keep my knees and elbows lighter in color (for those who have dark elbows and knees), hair mask/moisturizer, and eye-makeup remover. I have saved so much money not buying store bought products.

You all may know that Coconut Oil is a healthier oil for cooking, but believe it or not, you can use coconut oil for almost anything. Here are some examples of how you can use coconut oil to enhance your beauty:

  1. Body scrub: This one is my favorite, You can use this to exfoliate your body and pores. Every time in the shower I use this and it has kept my legs smooth and shiny, and has kept me from getting razor burn (huge plus), I normally keep it in a mason jar and use a handful on a loofa.
  2. Hair Mask: My hair is super healthy, and the only trick I have is, Coconut oil. I use a hair mask at least once a week, I keep it in my hair for 30 minutes before I head in the shower. Coconut oil helps tremendously with dandruff. I had lots of dandruff, and this has tamed it 97%. Using dandruff products and Vitamins to get your hair to grow faster is Pricey, So using coconut oil is just as great for not even a percentage of the cost. I also have heard stories that it is a cure for lice as well. Coconut oil suffocates lice that Is living in your hair. All you need to do is wear it over night under a shower cap and comb your hair the next day).
  3. Bleaches your elbows and knees: How many of you women are so insecure with your elbows and knees, specifically during the summer time. I know I had a hard time with my dark colored knees. So every night for about 3 weeks I would scrub my knees with my coconut body scrub, and I ended up seeing results after 3 weeks. It really works!
I can seriously go on with this list, But I want to show you how I make my body scrub/ Exfoliater for very cheap!

Coconut Lemon Scrub:

  • 1 cup of coconut oil – Any brand is fine, I got the generic Kirkland brand from Amazon, but you can buy it at any grocery store
  • 2 cups of sugar- Any brand is great.
  • Lemon Juice / or 1 whole lemon ( Most people use Lemon Essential Oil, but being on a budget, I find lemon juice to work just as great!)

  1. You will want to put the coconut oil into the microwave for about 15-20seconds so it can become liquid (Only do this if your coconut oil is solid).
  2. Mix the Sugar and the oil together.
  3. Add 1 whole lemon or about 5-6 squirts of lemon juice.
  4. Mix well all together.
  5. Store in a airtight container
