Orange Chicken

orange chicken

Chinese food is one of my favorite foods to eat. When we lived in Washington there was lots of Chinese restaurants to choose from in the little town we lived in. Since moving to Wyoming our even smaller town doesn’t have as many options. Which is good, because I can cook our Chinese food right up at home. I thought this orange chicken recipe was pretty darn close to a good orange chicken in a Chinese restaurant.
I love how easy of a meal this was to cook up as well. You would think there was some sort of magic, scientific trick to making good orange chicken. Trust me you don’t need to be a master cook to make this Chinese orange chicken. It’s so easy you will make it over and over again. I know that it is going to be added to our meal menu again in the near future.
Eat up and enjoy!!
Chicken:
2 large, boneless chicken breasts, cubed
½ onion, diced
1 ½ t garlic salt
Pepper
Orange sauce:
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup of orange juice
1 cup of honey
½ cup of soy sauce
½ cup of rice vinegar
3 T of flour
½ t ground ginger
Zezt from one orange
Sesame seeds

Once your chicken is cubed toss in pan and cook over medium heat on your stove top. Add diced onions as well. Sprinkle the garlic salt and pepper on top of your chicken. Cook the chicken until no longer pink.
In a medium size bowl mix all the ingredients to the orange sauce. Take a whole orange and a cheese grater to get the orange zest. I used the entire orange. Use the smaller side of your cheese grater as well. Whisk in the flour and whisk until it is no longer lumpy.
While your chicken is cooking boil rice or quinoa to serve the orange chicken on top of.
Once your chicken is done add the sauce to the hot pan. Bring to a boil. Stirring constantly until thickened. Once thickened remove from heat. Serve hot over rice.
