These are super simple to make with your little ones. It will be a great tradition to start with your children and family. These ornaments will make your house smell as great as they look. I love this time of year and decorating my house. As my husband would say ,”it sure looks festive in here.” He walked in after my 3 year old and I were busy decorating our house a few days after Thanksgiving.
My 3 year old had been asking for days before if it was time to decorate for Christmas. In our little town they had all the decorations up in town a week before Thanksgiving, so Chloe had been begging. She was super excited when it happened. I love how much fun it is to have little kids during the holidays. They bring so much excitement into it.
Homemade Cinnamon Nutmeg Ornaments
1 cup of unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup of ground cinnamon
1/2 cup of nutmeg
2 Tablespoons of white Elmer’s glue
3 Tablespoons of flour
ribbon or string
Christmas cookie cutters
Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Mix together your applesauce, cinnamon and nutmeg. Then add the glue. Mix together. It will be sticky so add 1 Tablespoon of flour at a time until it isn’t as sticky.
Next you will make your dough into a ball and place it between two pieces of plastic wrap to roll it out with a rolling pin.
Now it’s time to take your cookie cutters and cut out your ornaments. We did stars, hearts and gingerbread men. Place the cut out ornaments on a lined cookie sheet. Take a straw and poke the hole that you will string the ornaments up with. Bake them at 200 degrees for 2 1/2 -3 hours. Then let dry over night uncovered. Then string them and hang them up on your Christmas tree. They wont disappoint. You house will smell lovely all season long.
