Hobo Dinners

hobo dinners

Summer is coming to a end, but camp foods can still be cooked when your not camping. Hobo dinners is a great bring camping right into your kitchen. You can either use a BBQ grill to do these or do them in your oven. If you are trying to fit in one more camping trip before it gets too cold remember this simple idea for one of your meals.

I have been wanting to take our kids camping this summer. It just hasn’t happened though. Summer has flown by so fast. After thinking about it long and hard our kids would love it, but it would be so much work with two toddlers. Last night I decided why not bring the camping food to the dinner table. It turned out great!

you will need:

1 lb or ground hamburger

3-4 small red potatoes

1 cup of baby carrots

1 cup of frozen green beans

garlic salt

pepper

non-stick spray

olive oil

dried onions

rice vinegar

BBQ grill

foil

Use a large square piece of foil and lay it out on your counter top. Spray it with non-stick spray to prevent your veggies and meat from sticking to it too badly. Separate your hamburger into 4-5 different patties and lay them on the foil first. Next cut your potatoes into small bite size pieces. I left the peels on them because I like them, but you can remove them if you prefer. Cut the baby carrots into thirds so they cook faster and add them to the foil as well. Now sprinkle about 1 Tablespoon of dried onions, 1 teaspoon of pepper, 2 teaspoons of garlic salt, 1 Tablespoon of rice vinegar and 1 teaspoon of olive oil on top. Fold the tin foil over and seal on all the corners. You can let your kids make their own dinners as well. This makes it fun for them, and for some reason they are more likely to eat it if they make it. Write their names on them with permanent marker so you know who’s is who’s.  Cook your dinners over the BBQ grill on medium high heat for about 20-30 minutes. Check half way through.
