From Scratch: Bread Sticks

bread sticks

I love homemade bread sticks, and I love how easy they can be to make. I usually make them when I have left over pizza dough. Not this time. When I had told my husband we were eating left over chicken wings from super bowl Sunday, he said lets have bread sticks too. I thought why not. Bread sticks go great with chicken wings. So I whipped up a batch. I love this recipe because it doesn’t take long to make. They just have to rise until they have doubled, and that usually takes about 30-45 minutes. So not bad. These can go great with almost any meal as a side. Who doesn’t love bread sticks for dinner…. Enjoy!

1 T of fast rising yeast

 2 T of sugar

1 1/2 c. of warm water

1 T of olive oil

1 tsp salt

 1/2 tsp of garlic powder

1 tsp of Rosemary

3 1/2 c. flour

Dissolve yeast, sugar and salt in the warm water. Add olive oil  and flour. Mix with a bread hook on your mixer. Add garlic powder and rosemary. Mix well. Remove from mixer and add to a large bowl that is greased. Cover with a towel and set aside for 45 minutes to an hour to rise. Once it has doubled in size you can remove the dough from the bowl. Roll the dough out on your counter top. Be sure to grease the counter top so the dough doesn’t stick. Using a sharp knife slice the dough horizontally. Take each slice and twist it and place it on a greased cookie sheet. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake the bread sticks for 20-25 minutes. With 5 minutes left on your timer butter the tops and grind salt on top. Serve warm!
