DIY Hello Spring Plaque

Hello Spring, are you here to stay or to tease us?? We have this thought often here in Wyoming. This Easter weekend is predicting snow! It is officially spring though. We have seen some great sunny spring days here though. It has me hopeful for sunny days. This time of year I crave the sunny days, playing outside all day with my kids until it’s dark out. Those are our best memories.

My sister and I join each other on Skype again to create this fun little plaque. I can tell you I am not an artist to say the least. My sister on the other had has great artist skills. She walked me through painting my flower pot on my plaque. It turned out pretty darn cute. If I can do it anyone can create this fun Hello Spring Plaque. The flowers are made from felt, and were so fun and simple to make. I am going to have to do some more felt flower making for hair bows for my little girl one of these days.

My sister made her pallet board, I on the other hand bought mine at Hobby Lobby. I found it at a pretty reasonable price though. I had the paint, paint pen, and most of the felt for the flowers. This was a great frugal project as well. My sister and I Skype & craft once in a while. We don’t do it enough though. It’s a great way to spend time with your family that live far away. If you are a lover of crafts, diy projects and love to share this love with others, I encourage you to do this. It will become a fun tradition.

Create This DIY Project

What you will need for this project:

1 large wood plaque

stain (optional)

white paint

1 bright colored paint pen

multiple colors of felt

brads, buttons, beads

hot glue gun

paint brushes

I first stained my wood plaque. You don’t have to stain it, but I like the stained look. Let the stain dry before painting your flower pot on the plaque. I only put one light coat of a lighter oak colored stain on the plaque.

While my stain was drying I started making my felt flowers. I make three different kinds of flowers. I followed the tutorials from A Home For Design, The Ribbon Retreat Blog and Infarrantly Creative.

Now to paint the flower pot on your board. I used white paint and my sister used a teal/mint color for her’s. I pulled up a picture of a flower pot silhouette to draw it on my board with the pencil to start out. Then I went for it with the white paint. Be creative, right?? Then you can hot glue your flowers on top of the pot, like they are coming out the top of the pot. I glued buttons and brads on some of my flowers for the center. Then to finish it off, with a paint pen write  Hello Spring across the center of the flower pot. Once it is dry you can display it in the perfect spot in your house for Spring time.
