Chocolate Peanut Butter Chex Bars

Chocolate Peanut Butter Chex Bars

My kids are usually super into cold cereal, but lately they have not been. They want eggs, waffles, toast or pancakes. They make me work right off the bat in the morning. When they were just happy to eat cereal I was stocking up on it at Costco. I bought a big box of Honey Nut Chex. I love these. They are just a step up from plain rice Chex. That honey gives them a great sweet taste without having to sprinkle sugar on them. I was trying to figure out what to take a treat to my church youth group Wednesday night, and came up with these sweet babies. The girls were weeding a elderly lady from church’s garden, and needed a good treat for all their hard service. This was just the trick. They were super easy and no bake as well. I love a dessert that doesn’t have to have baking time.  Enjoy!

7 cups of Honey Nut Chex cereal

1 1/4 cup of peanuts (optional)

1 cup of brown sugar

1 cup of light corn syrup

1 cup of creamy peanut butter

1 T of vanilla

1 tsp of salt

6 oz of milk chocolate almond bar

In a large bowl mix your chex cereal and peanuts if you want them in. In a medium size pot melt corn syrup, brown sugar, peanut butter, vanilla and salt. Melt until creamy. Remove from heat so that it doesn’t burn to bottom of pot. Pour over the top of chex cereal. Toss the cereal until completely covered. Spray a 9 x 13 size pan with non stick spray. Press the chex mix into the bottom on the pan. Take your milk chocolate bar and a tsp of crisco and melt in the microwave until creamy. Drizzle on top of the bars. Let set for an hour or two before serving.
